CrossFit: you either love it or loath it. You may be impartial or perhaps slightly intimidated because your only experience or exposure has been watching exceptionally fit women on TV who look like they can lift Volkswagens competing in the CrossFit games. You may even think to yourself, “I could never do that.” I am often asked if “CrossFit is hard” and constantly told “I’d embarrass myself if I went to a class. I’m not strong.”
I’ll be honest with you — CrossFit is hard. It is usually the hardest thing I do during a day. It is also one of the most rewarding. I am a mom, I work full-time and from 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. I never stop. CrossFit is my daily dose of self-love and a gift to my mind and body. We get one body, yet thousands of days to commit to making it stronger and more healthy.
I have been a member of CrossFit791 since last September when the business officially opened its doors in Cashmere. What started out as a small garage gym patronized mostly by a core group of moms has become a dream achieved and a “community” inside a gym.
What I love about Crossfit791:
Convenient class times. I am usually a 5 a.m. girl. I have to get up and get it done before my household is awake and running. Set class times work well for me because there is accountability to get to class and be there on time.
The Coaches. They are well-trained and passionate about fitness. They have each individual’s best interest in mind and work towards consistent progress. They teach proper lifting form and technique. You do not have to feel strong to start CrossFit. You get to start at whatever level is best for you and you work towards gaining more strength and stamina. You don’t need to feel embarrassed. Every person has to modify a movement at some point and that is OK. What matters is that you show up. Everyone will be happy you did. Believe me.
The Owners. They are locals living and raising their families in Cashmere. They truly love their community and the people in it. They care about their facility being family friendly and an environment that inspires others to pursue a better quality of life. They are friendly, welcoming and totally down to earth.
The WODs (Work out of the day). I absolutely love going to the gym and having a work out already programmed for the day. I love that CrossFit involves your entire body in one work out and that you can get an amazing work out in in very little time. The WODs are adaptable to any fitness level.
Friends. This is a big one for me. Surrounding yourself with motivating, encouraging and friendly people is good for the soul. Those who sweat together, stay together.
Child care. You can bring your kids — no excuses.
Because of Crossfit 791 I have met some of the best and most encouraging and adventurous human beings I’ve had had the pleasure of knowing. I was a newbie from Idaho who was completely embraced and included. I didn’t have a chance to get lonely and I have never loved a gym as much as this one. If you are looking for something new, somewhere to start, or if you are new to the area, it is worth the drive to Cashmere to come check it out.
