Have pets? Try this!

It’s been a while since I have posted any crafts or projects. ‘Tis the season to be busy on the farm! ‘Tis also the season to keep the grass green and mowed, and of course still find time to play in it, too. Well, around here, we always have to be on the lookout before we play in the yard, because when you have an English Mastiff, Rottweiler and an old one-eyed cow dog, if you don’t watch before you step, it could be an icky outcome, if you know what I mean.

This isn’t my typical craft, but I stumbled upon this genius idea on Pinterest and knew I had to try it. Because wouldn’t it be wonderful to keep the dogs from doing their business in my blood, sweat and tears maintained lawn?!?! They have miles of pasture to resort to, but for some reason, they really enjoy my lovely lawn. So, here’s what I tried:

  • Gathered four empty milk jugs, but any large container will do, even extra large jars.
  • Filled with water and re-capped to prevent spilling.
  • I wanted to focus on my front lawn, since we spend more time there, so I placed the four filled jugs in the four corners of my yard.

Now, it is what it is: It looks like I have water jugs around my yard, but… take a look closer and what you WON’T find is dog poop! Seriously, none! For all you animal lovers out there who can identify with this, please give this a try! My daughter and I have gotten up each morning for the last two weeks to check the lawn excitedly, and nothing! We can’t even believe it! The jugs of water could use some glitter or something to make them cute and less obvious, but they work and I don’t mind! Here’s my front lawn after two weeks, and counting.

How does it work?! Well, I have heard many ideas regarding temperature, and so on, but really, it works and that’s what I’m impressed with! So, give it a try, fill up some jugs and keep them in in the area you wish to enjoy mess-free.
